Johnny unlocked the door to the lair and pushed it open.

I followed him in to the sound of voices raised in a heated argument.

"I'm not letting you risk yourself." That was Rob.

"You don't get to choose," Willa replied. "I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. I've done that for a long time now. I should have known not to try to find you."

"You're here now." Rob sounded a little more even. "You wanted to join my fight. If you want to do that, it'll be under my rules, or not at all."

"Maybe I don't—" Willa stopped speaking as Johnny and I entered the room. She stood with her arms crossed, her face red, eyes flashing with anger.

To my surprise, Tucker leaned against a wall, his face expressionless.

"You let her in on this." Willa waved toward me.

"It's not like we had a choice," Rob said. "And she's not related to me."

"You don't have a choice about my involvement either," Willa said firmly.

"She can fight," Johnny said.

Rob rolled his eyes. "Whose side are you on?"

"Anyone who opposes Zeta," Johnny replied.

"Same here." I stepped over to Tucker.

He put an arm around me and drew me to him. "I was starting to worry," he said softly.

"Sorry, we thought these two might need some time to work things out." I nodded toward Rob and Willa, who still wore masks of determination on their faces.

Tucker raised an eyebrow at me, but said nothing.

Was it that obvious?

I cleared my throat. "I don't know about anyone else, but I need some rest."

"Same here. You can fill me in first." Tucker led me to a door which stood ajar.

"They gave you a room?" I guessed.

"Yep. You can share with me." Tucker had that look on his face, like he didn't want to let me out of his sight now I was here.

I glanced back toward Rob and Johnny, but neither looked too worried I wasn't sharing a room with either of them. Rob even gave me a wink.

"All right then, but there better be a shower in there." I stepped inside and flicked on the light before Tucker closed the door behind us.

"Are you really sure about these clowns?" he asked. He sat on the end of the bed and pulled off his boots. "They seem likely to get you killed."

That was blunt, even for Tucker.

I shrugged. "They seem to know what they're doing and they have connections we don't." I gave him a brief outline of the night, only leaving out the bit about Johnny and I screwing on the front of his car.

"Getting the hell out of here sounds like a better idea than finding out who is in charge of Zeta," he remarked. "Let them deal with it."

"You mean let them take the risk?" I ran a hand through my hair. It must be a mess by now. "When have I ever sat back and done that?"

"Never. Doesn't mean you can't." He took my hand and pulled me down on the bed beside him.
